Island Hopping in Croatia

10 days, 5 islands, countless sunsets

Day 1 — Split

It all started with a late-night flight into Split, the ancient Roman city that would become our launching pad into the Adriatic. The warm air hit us the moment we stepped off the plane — thick with salt and the promise of something extraordinary.

We dropped our bags at a tiny apartment tucked behind Diocletian's Palace walls and immediately headed out to explore. The narrow stone streets were alive with the murmur of conversations in a dozen languages, the clink of glasses from sidewalk cafés, and somewhere distant, the sound of a guitar.

Day 3 — Hvar

The ferry to Hvar was an experience in itself. Watching Split shrink into the coastline while the island emerged from the blue ahead — it felt like crossing into a different world. Hvar welcomed us with lavender fields, ancient fortresses, and the kind of crystal-clear water you think only exists in photos.

Day 6 — Vis

Vis was the real discovery. Less touristy, more authentic — this is where we found the hidden beach that became the highlight of the entire trip. A 40-minute hike through pine forest led to Stiniva Bay, a narrow cove flanked by towering cliffs.

We spent the entire afternoon there, swimming in impossibly blue water, sharing a bottle of local wine, and watching the cliffs change color as the sun moved across the sky. Some memories are so perfect they almost don't feel real.

This captures it perfectly! That afternoon at Stiniva was pure magic. I still dream about that water.
